A few months back an article in Taps featured a small brewpub in Antigonish, so when work took me to NS I had to check it out. The TownHouse is situated on a side street off Main in a building that has been a restaurant since the 1940's and now serves Maritime brews on tap such as Propeller, Granite and PumpHouse...and today started its first brew! Using the SabCo system made famous by Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales) owner Terry Piercey is focusing on starting small, aiming to produce a English Bitter that will serve as a house brew. Though too early for a sample, I did enjoy an excellent plate of bangers & mash with some awesome locally made sauerkraut, washed down with a pint of draught Propeller Pilsner.
Terry told me another brewery just opened in Baddeck called the Big Spruce…guess a detour and a day AWOL from work maybe called for!
